What is Pranayama?

In Sanskrit, Prana means life force energy and Ayama means extension or expansion. Pranayama is not simply breathing — it is the deliberate cultivation, direction and mastery of the vital force that animates all life.

Modern science confirms what Vedic sages knew millennia ago: conscious breathing directly regulates the autonomic nervous system, reduces cortisol, improves HRV (heart rate variability) and even influences gene expression. The breath is the only autonomous body function we can consciously control — making it the master key to wellbeing.
